We receive no
government funding or subsidy at all. From its inception,
Up with Downs has relied on public support for its
survival. Various national children’s welfare programmes
helped to cover the initial set-up costs of the school.
Our income is derived from school fees and ad hoc donations,
but this alone does not suffice to cover the School’s
operating expenses. Fortunately, we have an EXCELLENT

Fortunately, we have an EXCELLENT fund-raising committee
formed of volunteer Moms & Dads, and assisted by friends of
the school. This fund-raising committee organizes 4 regular
functions every year:
-
A
sponsored Golf Day, jointly organized by our friends at
George Round Table and George Rotary Club;
-
A Movie
Premiere, hosted by our friends at Ster Kinekor
Junction;
-
A bicycle
race strategically timed to be a trainer for the far
more famous Cape Town Argus; and
-
A formal
dinner/wine auction held at the prestigious Fancourt
Hotel & Golf Estate. This spectacular function has now
become so popular that we were able to raise R100 000
(US$15 000) at last year’s event!
-
A picture
calendar that we not only sell, but also use as an
advertising/awareness tool.
Of course, no fundraiser is
possible without the support from the public, and the people
of George, from both the private and business sectors, have
been unswervingly generous and loyal in their support of Up
with Downs through the years. And for this we thank you,
always!
We are also very pleased to be
associated with the George Round Table, and that they have
chosen Up with Downs as one of its main benefactors for the
year 2005, and for the next five years! Thanks to the
Table!
