Up with
Downs is currently upholding
its responsibilities as noted above in points 1-3, and we
are investigating ways on how to achieve and maintain point
4. We have a dream that almost came to fruition in 2004:
the acquisition of a suitable smallholding in the school’s
name which would enable us to provide for the needs, both
immediate and future, of all our children.
This property would also enable
us provide the necessary hostelling facilities to
accommodate out-of-town folk, and it would have workshops to
provide training in skills such as pottery, weaving, basic
carpentry, even limited agricultural. These life skills
would not only make our kids useful to the community, but
would greatly bolster their own self-esteem and dignity.
Although the property in question proved out of reach
financially, the Dream lives on…
